It was the height of the pandemic, she was stuck at home, and she thought it\u2019d be fun to send him a fun meme she saw that reminded her of one of his videos.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When he responded with a plain: <em>\u201cLOL\u201d <\/em>Brandy threw caution to the wind and sent a follow up message. And, oh my god, she got a response back! Before long, they\u2019d plunged into an online courtship that rivaled Shakespeare\u2019s most epic romances&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">THE<strong><em> TALKING STAGE<\/em><\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re a woman in your twenties, chances are you\u2019ve experienced the dreaded \u201ctalking stage\u201d, which Robertson defines as \u201ca Gen-Z-coined phrase that\u2019s a vague descriptor for an early pseudo-relationship full of texting but no commitment.\u201d Even if you didn\u2019t know what it was, I bet <em>now<\/em> you\u2019re thinking \u2018I\u2019ve definitely been in one of those\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:30% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><video controls src=\"https:\/\/ascjcapstone.com\/spring-2023\/gorsenig\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/rpreplay_final1682576263-1.mov\"><\/video><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Here\u2019s the thing: we\u2019re the generation that grew up watching Hillary Duff pull Chad Michael Murray entirely through flip-phone correspondence! You might hit it off perfectly well with someone through text, only to find that in person you have nothing in common. You might find that there\u2019s a glaring lack of chemistry, that their personality is entirely different, or that their witty banter doesn\u2019t hold up when they don\u2019t have assistance from the internet. <em>(Surprise! you can\u2019t pull up WikiHow when you\u2019re on an actual in-person date.)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On these grounds, online flirtations rarely make it past the talking stage. But this was not the case for Brandy and the YouTuber\u2026 After a <em>year<\/em> of talking and never meeting in person, quarantine was over, and they finally decided to meet and hook up.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enter the chat, a <em>new<\/em> term: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">THE<strong><em> SNEAKY LINK.<\/em><\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Brandy defines a sneaky link as &#8220;someone you\u2019re hooking up with in secret.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She&#8217;s not sure why this YouTuber (or, in Brandy&#8217;s words, &#8220;&#8216;<em>content creator&#8217;,<\/em> because it sounds cooler&#8221;) wanted to keep their meetings secret, but she didn&#8217;t particularly care&#8230; they got along well enough, he was respectful, and he&#8217;d made his expectations clear from the beginning: <em>nothing serious, just sex. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which was perfectly fine by Brandy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Except it wasn&#8217;t just sex,&#8221; said Brandy. \u201cSneaky links ambush you. They treat you like you\u2019re their <em>girlfriend for the night<\/em>, and it becomes very hard not to get emotionally invested&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">THE<strong><em> SITUATIONSHIP.<\/em><\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Situationships are a trend that&#8217;s grown exponentially in recent years, particularly among Gen-Z.
